Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

the server has these partitions:
/
/boot
/home
/var

this had ubuntu 10.04 installed, but we had need reinstall, the server
has 6tb of disk space with raid 5(hardware) and lvm. For reinstall we
used ubuntu server 10.04 64bit, the steps that we made:

*select manual partition
*format /
*format /boot
*select for mount vat in /var without format
*select for mount home in /home without format

when we click in continue, show message said that some files in /var
overwrite because some app need this, click ok, and after continue with
fomatted but seconds after was completely blue screen

wait for several minutes and nothing, only blue screen without
information or process, and we deside reboot.

After install without mount /home and /var and install good, but in the
var partition were removed several files!! (there was only file spool,
tmp, www, .. alphabetical delete?)

we lost DBs and files backups
