As a workaround you can run gtick with the command "padsp gtick".
>From "man padsp":  "padsp starts the specified program and redirects its 
>access to OSS compatible audio devices (/dev/dsp
and auxiliary devices) to a Pulseaudio sound server."
It isn't perfect though - gtick works as normal until you press the stop 
button, which causes it to crash.
