Gave up on the Ubuntu drivers, and installed the 32 bit Brother drivers
for my DCP130C using "-force all". (There are clear instructions on the
Brother Printer Driver webpages:
http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public_s/id/linux/en/index.html
)

First attempt failed, and I had to create a number of directories (as
per the failures shown in the terminal during first install attempt),
second attempt was successful. Now things work again - welcome back
printer.

Regards,
Bruce.
