I have the same issue, but it seems to only be happening to me if i boot up my laptop without it plugged in, if i unplug it while Ubuntu is running, or if i change the screen brightness. If you need any debug message log things, just let me know which ones you need to diagnose the bug. I will try the latest upstream kernel and post back with results.
