I have The Same problem In My Laptop Acer Aspire 5610Z with WDC WD1600BEVT-00ZCT0 disk.
I have tested with Ubuntu 10.04 and Fedora 13 : the same proplem, the temperature of my disk rise up to 55 °C . I have tested with Mandriva 2010.1, the temperature of my disk dont rise up 46 °C.
