Ok, now I got it. I close the applet and after starting UbuntuOne again it opened the browser page and I could add my computer. Something else I did, I'm not sure it makes a difference, was to subscribe to the free storage option. Please note that I also did not know about the dashboard (there was no link or indication during registration).
