aplay can use pulseaudio via ALSA plugin (and in fact, this is what happens), and aplay is way more versatile than paplay. Since it doesn't seem to be an advantage to use paplay, this bug will be marked as won't fix. Feel free to reopen it if you really think is is worth, but with some more arguments ;-)
