The kernel commit http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commitdiff;h=56d15cd313d0d0d7a16c1a2e2cc519f18ab4725a will solve this issue. Ubuntu 10.10 kernel already contains this patch. The default streaming control timeout value is too low (in Ubuntu 10.04 it is set to 1000ms). In Ubuntu 10.10 with the mentioned kernel patch it is increased to 5000ms which is the value used by the Windows driver as well. A kernel module parameter has also been introduced for this value so that one can change it if needed without rebuilding the kernel.
