Simply workaround. This disables the fadein/out effects for the dialog. Source and compiled packages (I've changed the package name to gnome-session-nofadeinout, providing/conflicting/replacing gnome-session) can be found at deb http://terrex.dyndns.org/debian dapper main deb-src http://terrex.dyndns.org/debian dapper main Tested in amd64 current dapper with nvidia.
