Oh, and yes, the workaround proposed by Jeff works fine (thank you very much!). After changing that packages i've just had to delete the printer and reinstall it, choosing the driver for the Epson S20.
i will make sure i don't install unwanted updates (the packages suggested by Jeff), for now , and i'll wait for a fix to this bug. thank you Pascal, Jeff and everyone for your help.
