OK, I recommend that you use ubuntu-bug to file 4 or 5 new bug reports for the non-Firefox issues. With the report for "Now I have to boot in recovery mode, log-in and choose "Start in failsafe graphics" or to that extent." make sure you tell us what make and model your video card/chip is and attach the output of lspci -vvnn if ubuntu-bug doesn't do so automatically.
