Fortunately, I just got my first update notice for Lucid, so emacs tried
(and failed) to install correctly again.

There are four such files in the temp directory. I've attached them all.

Subject: [Bug 581127] Re: package emacs23 23.1+1-4ubuntu7 failed to
install/upgrade:

Sorry if I was unclear. The file we need is /tmp/emacs22.gYfEz4 (and/or
/tmp/emacs22.ch3Q87 from the new term.log you uploaded).

Files in /tmp are cleaned out on reboot, so they might not be there any
longer. If you don't have these files on your system anymore, a new log
file can perhaps be produced by attempting to install emacs23 (and/or
emacs22) again. Look at the end of term.log for the error message about
failed byte compilation for the precise file name; it will be different
each time.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
