OK, this was a foobar, It can be closed. The GB was switched back to MB and the hdb2 partition filled up.
Seems to me that Linux programs need a lot more polish on the gui entries. 1. They should not crash because of a "out of space" issue. 2. It should do checks for sanity, limits, reality. 3. The grub boot sector goes on the fisrt sector of the /boot partition (where ever that may be and there can be many), NOT on the mbr of the second or third or nn drive. hd(n,n) NOT hd(n) thanks for listening.
