Well, I have installed mandriva, and I would have to remove the installation to reproduce the problem. That is doable, however, when starting the installation, I am dumped into a non root shell. I don't even know what the root password is, at that stage. I have no idea if I can mount a usb device, in order to copy files to it, or even if there are any files in /var/log, or even if /var/log exists.
I will do what I can, but I might have to write down error messages on a piece of paper. thanks, jeff > Thanks for your bug report.
