The Epson AcuLaser CX11 indeed needs a manufacturer-supplied proprietary driver. It does not work with any driver which comes with Ubuntu.
Everyone who has another printer, please report a separate new bug (if you have not done so already). Assign it to the "gutenprint" package and proceed as described on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems, especially supply an error_log as described in the "CUPS error_log" section. Before starting to do any investigations on your system to obtain the error_log or other information, please do a full system update as some printing-related bugs got fixed by recent updates.
