Public bug reported:

I updated from Karmic to Lucid, and my external mic has stopped working
since. I tried the advices of several forums, tweaked with the model
parameter in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf, tweaked with alsamixer but
nothing has worked.

One point of concern- capture tab in alsamixer shows 2 'ext mics' one of
which is just dummy; it does not have any volume slider. I can't mute
that. Don't know if that mic is being used whenever I try to record.
Soun recorder records only noise.

Here is my amixer output.
