I also have a black screen with a mouse , no status bar or anything else . the error messages " tcp/ip can not connect ,,,,,,, Something about a failure , lock out because of a system crash . I do know that my hard drive is failing and i have bad blocks . It was booting and working . I was exporting a video file to my desktop using the Kino program , I started firefox to download a couple files need to work with Kino, the computer locked up ,I waited about 10 minutes i then pushed the reset button. This is how i got the Black screen. I am using the live cd currently .What can i do to repair this problem , i would like to remove some information and soon install a new hard drive .
