komputes,

OK, looking back at a couple of (literal) screenshots and some brief
notes that I made yesterday.

If the usb is formatted FAT16 and I choose "Make Startup Disk" then the
resultant usb if mounted shows all of the files, gparted shows that it
is fat16, bootable. This usb fails to boot with a simple "Boot error"
message.

If the usb is formatted FAT32 and I choose "Make Startup Disk" then the
resultant usb if mounted shows all of the files, gparted shows fat32,
bootable, lba. This usb fails to boot with the "Could not find kernel
image: linux"

If I choose "Erase Disk" followed by ""Make Startup Disk" it looks as if
it defaults to FAT32 and the error message is "Could not find kernel
image: linux"
