The apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade didn't upgrade the linux kernel image file that was in use. I thought this was kind of weird, as there was an updated image available, but it makes some sense from a usability perspective.
I installed the updated image from synaptic and everything went sour. I no longer had a mouse available in the graphic interface etc. I got the system usable again through one of the virtual consoles, but decided that it would be best to start from scratch. I reinstalled feisty after deleting the old install. I did a dist- upgrade, and reached the same situation I had earlier on whereby the restricted modules manager said it was using a restricted driver for my wireless card but my wireless card wasn't showing anywhere. I searched for restricted modules for 2.6.20-9, but none were available. I really can't see any in the repositories. I decided a slightly different tactic. I have installed linux- system-386, a package which always has a dependency on the latest image. Hopefully, this will force the upgrade to linux image 2.6.20-12. If it does, I will then install the restricted modules available for 2.6.20-12 and see what happens then. -- no wireless on Dell M1710 laptop https://launchpad.net/bugs/92973 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
