** Description changed:

+ FURTHER UPDATE:
+
+ As I note in my message below, this problem has returned upon upgrading
+ to Ubuntu 10.04. I'll also note that the same behavior is seen in
+ Xubuntu 10.04.
+
+ The suggested solution below, is not (or should not be considered as) a
+ fix or solution to this problem, but only a temporary triage. This
+ technique also works for Xubuntu 10.04, though in both cases video card
+ performance drops.

  UPDATE:
I've gone back and re-checked this and it no longer seems to be a problem. I
can now Suspend and Hibernate my Dell Inspiron 600m and resume without
problems. Before, on any attempt to resume, I'd lock up and have to do a hard
reset. Here's some info that I hope is useful:

  I am currently using:
  Dell Inspiron 600m laptop
  Ubuntu Karmic Koala 9.10
  GNOME 2.28.1
  Linux kernel 2.6.31-20-generic
  1 GB RAM
  Intel M 2.0 GHz

I went ahead an uploaded my system info via apport. If I was
notsupposed to do this, I apologize.

(Sorry, this is my first time helping out in this way).

  Thanks!
  Eugene

PS The same applies to Bug 471872, which is an identical issue, I think.

  -----

Computer locks up going into or coming out of Suspend mode (not sure
  which).

The bug report tells me I've had a serious kernel error. Sorry I don't
  have more info.

Power options were set to Suspend after a time and each time (3x now)
the computer has frozen and I've needed to do a hard reset (hold power
button down for five seconds) to get it to reboot. Maybe if I gave it
more time to come out of Suspend (I wait like 20 seconds) it might do so
without the hard reset, but I don't know currently. I dealt with this
by changing the power options such that it does not suspend when plugged
  in (which it always is).

This may be the same bug as 428961, 428963, and/or 431138 -- not sure.

  ProblemType: KernelOops
Annotation: This occured during a previous suspend and prevented it from
resuming properly.
