Public bug reported: Binary package hint: thunderbird
When you finish composing a message, you click send and a popup appears showing the progress of the sending. At this point, you may cancel the sending by clicking the Cancel button (see the attached image). If you click the Cancel, the message is not sent. But if you hit <enter>, instead of clicking the Cancel button, the popup window disappears and the message still being sent. There is no way to cancel the process. The expected behavior when hitting <enter> would be the same as clicking the Cancel button (my opinion).
