I have an identical problem on my Acer Aspire 5710 laptop. Karmic and Lucid also affected. Burning a DVD with maximum speed takes more than 1 hour. After burning the disk in a reasonable time, disk verify progress bar jumps to 100% and the stuff hangs for 40-45 minutes. The odd thing is that if I write a second disk without closing brasero, the checking time decreases to an acceptable one. One day later and after upgrading to Lucid the same thing happened.
