The bug tracker is not the right medium to discuss default application selection, try rather on mailing list or joining the UDS session about it, thunderbird has bugs too though, it doesn't follow the GNOME and Ubuntu schedule, doesn't have calendar integration in the GNOME desktop nor code to use exchange servers in corporate environment
