This issue exists on the latest Lucid release...

Compiled on Apr 29 2010 for kernel 2.6.32-22-generic (SMP).

Attached is an excerpt of my syslog which most likely corresponds to the
quick gobbling up of my memory, which has been happening off and on with
Hardy as well as Lucid.
