The very same problem appeared to me after !!changing my wireless router!! from dlink di-624 (supports b/g) to zyxel NBG417n (b/g/n). My machine is Lenovo Thinkpad T60, wireless card is reported by lspci as Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG [Golan] Network Connection (rev 02). This card supports only b/g.
