Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-session

I noticed this on upgrading from Karmic to Lucid: when I use bashrun
(not packaged in Ubuntu) to start applications, for example terminals,
they are started in the root directory, not my home directory. GNOME's
own "Run Application..." works fine. Since bashrun does not itself
change directory in any way, it seems that the culprit must be the
session itself, running in the root directory rather than my home
directory.

I launch bashrun from a new hotkey configured in Keyboard Shortcuts. I
used to launch it from a hotkey configured in the Compiz commands
extension; I don't know whether that might have made a difference.
