Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I'm experiencing the following issues:

-if u drag&drop a FILE from nautilus to the panel, it will create a
launcher apparently meant to be for an application, not a file (if u hit
properties → browse, it will ask for locating an application). clicking
on it won't take any effect at all.

-if u drag&drop a FOLDER from nautilus to the panel, it will create a
launcher apparently meant to be for a file (if u hit properties →
browse, it will ask for a file), which will, however, open the
corresponding folder correctly.

-dragging&dropping and application launcher works correctly.

So, the only way how to create a launcher for a file (song, text
file,...) is to drag&drop a folder, then hit properties → browse &
choose the file.

I've seen this problem since Ubuntu 8.10 already & still experience it
in 10.04, without any change. It seems to be a gnome issue.

My suggestion: create a single & universal dialogue that pops up when u
drag&drop an item to the panel. And u urself would choose, in the "type"
menu at the top of the dialogue, if it is an application, folder or
file.

Thanks. Please consider this bug far more important than it seems,
panel-related bugs are one of the main reasons why new users switch back
to Windows!!! And there are many, not just this one...
