The call is eventually delegated to gksu. This is the behavior of gksu.

"gksu gedit" shows the same behavior when typing an incorrect password.

It's not a bug in Mint. I'm marking it as affecting Ubuntu(gksu), it'll
be up to the upstream developers to decide whether this is a feature
request or a bug.
