Same problem on a Dell M1210 laptop with Intel graphics card. Can log into GNOME fine but when logging into KDE it fades to black while the last icons on the splash screen forming. Its not completely broken as above, i.e. the mouse cursor works, message do pop up, Alt-F2 allows programs to be started and Crtl+Alt+Del brings up the log out/shut down menu.
No obvious errors in syslog, Xorg or messages. The following didn't help: (i) moving the kde options directory ".kde" to ".kde.old", (ii) attaching an external monitor and playing with display settings, Default display manager is kdm, though for the first boot (reboot) after the upgrade it rebooted into gdm. It then went back to using kdm on subsequent boots?! Didn't change anything myself! -- After upgrade 9.10->10.04 KDE desktop does not appear after KDE splash fades out https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/572914 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
