I now can't get past this error while installing the release version of
Kubuntu 10.04.

I have a separate /boot partition that I did not wish to format during
installation in case something went wrong. The drive has partitions for
Windows, swap, /home, /usr/local, and two partitions for the operating
systems. One is occupied by 9.10, the other was created to hold 10.04.

The first time I ran the installer everything worked as expected with
the 10.04 kernel images added to the grub menu. However I need to
reinstall after making some manual changes to the authentication files
in /etc that seemed to cause problems for dbus. All subsequent attempts
to install following the same procedure as before now results in the
ubiquity error during the installation of grub.
