Binary package hint: indicator-applet
The applet tends to gain space to the left after a while.
Appearing / disappearing icons seem to trigger this: copying files,
receiving a message from pidgin (set to display a status icon when the
window is inactive only) creates new icons in the panel. When they are
removed, the indicator-applet gains 1 or 2 pixels to the left and starts
to grow.
