I encounter the same problem with a fresh install of the final Lucid. I am not asked for my password, so nothing happens when I try to install. If I start from the terminal with gksudo it works as advertised:-)
attached: starting software-center from terminal, with gksudo, and with debug level=3 All I did before trying to use software-center after the fresh install was connecting with my wifi with an empty password in seahorse (unsafe storage) ,updating the language packs (dutch), log-off, log-in.
