I agree with the (MANY) others saying that this is a major problem. I
would also mention the "tip of the iceberg" effect -- for every person
that goes to the trouble to figure out how and where to complain and
does so, there are at least 100 that either assume complaining won't
work (and they seem to have a point...), can't figure out how or where
to complain, just complain to a friend, stick to Windows, or etc. I have
been bugged by this for several years, myself, but am only now going to
the trouble to add my voice to the crowd.

I also have a question/possible suggestion for helping to solve the
problem: would it be possible to change the way the mouse responds,
instead of changing the themes/borders/etc? I agree that really thick
borders look unsightly, and it appears that 'invisible' border
extensions would be difficult to implement (otherwise they would have
already implemented this suggestion). How about, then, changing the
mouse pointer so that it has a larger 'hot spot' or the system will
recognize the pointer as selecting a border even if it is 3-4 pixels
away, instead of requiring it to be within the border? I believe that
Windows does something like this, and even allows the 'tolerance' to be
adjusted to suit individual users. The 'drag & drop' tolerance (and by
extension, the 'grab a window border' tolerance) can be adjusted with a
slider so that if you are getting older and have less steady hands, or
have your mouse speed cranked up, etc., you can adjust the slider
accordingly, making it easier not only to resize windows, but to grab
and drag icons, text, etc. Would this be practical to do in Ubuntu? If
so, would it be easier to implement, and be a solution people would
want?

I'm just putting it forth as a suggestion because there seems to have
been little progress for a number of years on this issue, and it is
driving me crazy. I just got a new, high-resolution monitor which is
making it even worse. What does everyone think?
