creating /var/run/ on the / partition was working... have done quite a few updates since the originally posting here and it's back. i keep getting "ifup: failed to open statefile /var/run/network/ifstate: No such file or directory" at boot or when trying to type "/etc/init.d/loopbac start" or stop. the / and /var partitions have /var/run and even /var/run/network/ifstate
