This bug is present in Lucid as well, unfortunately. My symptoms are
largely the same:

* Complete system freeze, including X and the mouse
* Kernel panic (cannot SSH into the box)
* No obvious pattern; will reboot multiple times in an hour, and then be fine
for five or six hours or more
* Occasionally system hangs with music looping, but is more often random and
not clearly associated with an activity
* Last reported issue is the ratelimit.d problem with Pulseaudio

I have filed what may be a duplicate bug at: <a
href="https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/568549";>https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/568549</a>

It does not appear to be related to the proprietary NVidia drivers, as
I've downgraded to the non-proprietary versions and am still
experiencing the issue.

Audio device is as follows:

23:00.0 Audio device: Creative Labs X-Fi Titanium series [EMU20k2] (rev 03)
        Subsystem: Creative Labs Device 0044

        Memory at de000000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16M]
        Capabilities: <access denied>
        Kernel driver in use: SB-XFi
        Kernel modules: snd-ctxfi
