I didn't try it because I have been using VirtualBox instead of kvm for long time. But I see that this issue has been fixed somehow. Now I'm testing it on Ubuntu 10.04 amd64, with kernel 2.6.32-21-generic, kvm 1:84+dfsg-0ubuntu16+0.12.3+noroms+0ubuntu6. It's working well - OS starts, no crash.
