MIDI files require a synthetiser. They're not made for editing with a conventional stream editor as far as I understand (unlike, say, streams like wav/flac/vorbis/mp3/etc). I doubt anything can be done about this and would tend to say WONTFIX, the midi files should be converted to a format such as flac or vorbis... But then I'm not a dev so I may be wrong.
