Public bug reported: When trying to install Ubuntu on a Dell Inspiron 11z laptop, the installation fails since it detects neither the wired nor the wireless network cards. I am trying to make a PXE installation (from a setup that works with other machines, so that's not the problem).
The installation boots (reads kernel and initrd), but after a couple of installer questions it fails to detect either network card, and then the installation fails. I have gotten the same results with Lucid-beta2, Karmic, and Jaunty. The hardware itself is working and has linux support. I have installed (the Ubuntu-based) Jolicloud Linux (Jolicloud-PreFinal.iso, downloaded today) and there both the wired and wireless networks work out of the box. The wireless uses a proprietary Broadcom STA driver, but without manual intervention. Output of "lshw -C Network" when running Jolicloud: *-network description: Ethernet interface product: Attansic Technology Corp. vendor: Attansic Technology Corp. physical id: 0 bus info: p...@0000:02:00.0 logical name: eth0 version: c0 serial: 00:26:b9:a8:2d:94 width: 64 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: bus_master cap_list ethernet physical configuration: broadcast=yes driver=atl1c driverversion=1.0.0.1-NAPI firmware=N/A latency=0 multicast=yes *-network description: Wireless interface product: BCM4312 802.11b/g vendor: Broadcom Corporation physical id: 0 bus info: p...@0000:08:00.0 logical name: eth1 version: 01 serial: c4:17:fe:c6:ff:12 width: 64 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: bus_master cap_list ethernet physical wireless configuration: broadcast=yes driver=wl0 driverversion=5.60.48.36 ip=130.236.172.169 latency=0 module=wl multicast=yes wireless=IEEE 802.11 *-network DISABLED description: Ethernet interface physical id: 2 logical name: pan0 serial: 5e:75:5e:c7:98:39 capabilities: ethernet physical configuration: broadcast=yes driver=bridge driverversion=2.3 firmware=N/A multicast=yes ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Installation detects neither wired Attansic interface nor wireless Broadcom interface https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/566673 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
