Same problem here, which I had reported elsewhere (incorrectly probably, because my hardware is actually exactly what the OP has - Vostro 1500, STAC9205). Internal mic works, headphones and speakers work fine. External mic/line in works when plugged in before booting, but never recognized if plugged in after booting (internal mic is always active).
