I was a bit too fast with thinking the solution was found.
When using "options snd-hda-intel model=acer", plugging in headphones doesn't
mute the internal speakers.
So I went over the list of available models, with these results:
quanta-il1: no sound at all
3stack: only sound through the internal speakers
toshiba: no sound
acer: headphones don't mute the internal speakers
acer-dmic: idem
acer-aspire: no sound
dell: only headphones
zepto: no sound
(test: not available)
auto: only headphones

Sound doesn't work through the internal speakers, yet the headphone jack does
work. I've also tested the speakers on Windows, and they did work there.
I'm using Ubuntu 9.10, but the same bug happens on the live disk of 10.04.
