Same for me. It seems clear that i8042 as a module is the solution and 
unloading/reloading this and psmouse on suspend/resume is necessary. This 
clearly needs changing in the releases though.
The question now I believe is whether the screen is turned off and you have to 
press the brightness buttons to get it back on after resume. I do not have this 
symptom, but others have. But is it only because the screen has been turned off 
by screensaver/power management? Plugging in a usb keyboard and mouse to resume 
without needing the built in keyboard and touchpad will test this.
