Hi, I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 and I am not able to play the failing stream either. Repeating your "Steps to reproduce" with 8.04 gave the same problem as you report having with Lucid Beta. The "http://..."; stream under "Additional info:" did work for Ubuntu 8.04.
