Public bug reported:

first of im a linux newbie, so i may explain this wrong.

I think this may be the same bug that has been marked as fixed about a
year ago (bug 59695). The problem occurs when the harddrive is idle. I
can hear it click periodically (15 - 30 sec in between) and the SMART
load/unload cycle count rise by about 10-15 every minute (its on 241019
now, so i suspect its still not resolved in Ubuntu 9.10, which i was
running before)

My harddrive is a Samsung MP0804H and i have disabled harddrive spindown
in the power management.

I have never and do not experience this problem in Windows XP, so i find
it unlikely its a (pending) hardware failure.

** Affects: ubuntu
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
