Hi Jeremy,

thanks for your information and concern.
This is no issue for me any more.
It turned out that, after upgrade (and some of the following updates)
had to be altered manually each time
        output jack --> headphone
via alsamixer.
Also, the right channel had been set to 'mute' by the upgrade to 9.10.
