Having the same issue on my Mac Mini (Lucid Server beta 1). Besides the obvious issue at hand, the Mac Mini can't boot 'legacy' OSes headless. This means that without grub-efi my machine will be in an inbootable state until a display is attached (although removing grub-efi doesn't remove my grub.efi in my boot partition, so technically, the package manager won't destroy my setup).
