Same symptoms as described above, but 32-bit netbook with an apport complaint. 543484 is marked as applying to an older version of plymouth with a fix released, but I updated plymouth last night and have still been getting this problem. As others have noted, no splash screen but otherwise appears more or less asymptomatic.
