Kyle, when running the command to echo disk into /sys/power/state, the machine goes into hibernation.
When powering on the machine, I get the status bar which then becomes somewhat distorted. The reason seems to be that the machine is booting in tty1 and expecting there to be an X session. When changing to tty7 after booting is finished, I get my previous X session.
