I'm another unlucky one with this same problem.
Using Ubuntu Karmic x64 with Intel i3

As a relative newbie to Linux I feel i'm a bit stuffed. I can't even boot using
the recovery mode option from Grub2 as I get a similar problem to other posters
- the recovery menu is frozen and only CTRL-ALT-DEL or Numlock appear to do
anything.
How can I regain access to my system?

I also have a crypt partition, so if I boot using a Ubuntu DVD or USB
stick, how can I mount my crypt partition where all my stuff is stored
(seemed like a good idea when I set it up, and worked great for the last
2 months but now I wish I hadn't as it just makes it impossible to
access) Have I lost everything?

Any help on a workaround that would just let me regain access would be
appreciated. Don't see how I can fix it without even access to a cmd
line prompt!
