Seeing as people are chiming in with "me-toos", I know I subscribed to this bug after having a slightly different problem, but the iwl3945abg in my Ubuntu laptop has been working fine for several months - although I do keep it within the same room as the router. I'm on Lucid now. Here's the driver and firmware information that is working for me.
