Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: plymouth
Hangs at the ugly purple Plymouth splash screen with 4 dots lit. I
never see the login prompt

I am running the nightly build, upgraded from 9.10

CPU: Core i7/940 with 12G of RAM
Motherboard: Asus P6T Deluxe
Graphics: Powercolor HD5970
Monitor: Samsung Syncmaster 2443BW

I tried booting with and without the fglrx drivers, no joy in either
case.

I have seen other bug reports regarding boot hangs, but they were not
using ATI cards or drivers.

I was able to edit the grub boot configuration and re-enable the grub
menu, so I am able to get a root "rescue" prompt. I can boot into that
ok, but as soon as I try to resume normal boot the result is always a
hang.

** Affects: plymouth (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
